TESTING / ASSESSMENTS

LISA COX

A homeschooling mom for 5 years has both a BS and MS in education with special ed training and has done more than 50 assessments.   Is currently scheduling assessments second week in June. Cost are$30 per assessment with a max of $80 per family. Please contact Lisa by phone at 287-0777 or email at

MARY LISEC

A homeschool mother of two for twelve years, and Ruthanne Risser, a homeschool mother of four (four graduates) for seventeen years, are both certified teachers available to do narrative assessments and standardized testing. The rates are listed below.

Narriatives

$30 for the first child; $20 for the second child, not to exceed $60/family. The location for the narratives will be arranged when you call for your appointment. If the distance for either of us to come to you is beyond 12 miles, a $5 time and gas fee will be added.

STANDARDIZED TESTING:

Group Rates: $40/child if done in a group; $10/each additional child from the same family tested in the same group as the first child.
Individual Rates: $50/child
Mailing fee: $5/test

KIM WOLF

Kim Wolf (homeschool mom, McCHEO member/Coordinator):  Not a certified teacher, does assessments under Academic Assessor choice (ii) "other person mutually agreed upon by the parent(s) and the superintendent."  Has homeschooled for 14 years and is a McCHEO coordinator as well as a contributing writer/product reviewer/Ohio coordinator for The Old Schoolhouse homeschool magazine.  Pre-approved as an assessor for Milton-Union school district; others will need to ask permission to use Kim in other districts, very rarely is there a problem.  Kim has a qualifications sheet to give to or read to your superintendent, to be e-mailed upon request.
     COST:  $10 per student, not more than $25 per family.  Meeting place can be either at the family's home or Kim's home.

ARTS

Discovery Series Performances:
Discovery productions are professionally-produced children's programming for grades PK-9. Each production is designed specifically to enhance curriculum and features literary classics as well as important historic and contemporary figures.

Troy-Hayner Cultural Center:
The Hayner Center offers classes for home-schooled children in art._Instructor, Carol Bellas, will teach a wide variety of media for 5-9 year_olds and ages 10 through high school._Contact the Hayner Center at 339-0457 to register or to receive additional_information and a schedule of the Friday classes. KLEPTZ YMCA
Home School Art:
Join other families who home school their children for this interesting and fun program on Tuesdays from 1-2:30 pm. These classes are designed for students in K-8 and will focus on learning about classical works of art and the artist who created them; learning and using techniques they used to create their art; and , creating wonderful and unique works to share with the family. Semester includes 14 classes, all supplies, a certificate of participation and a end of semester art show at the Y.
Semester Cost:

Riverbend Art Center-
Riverbend Art Center presents a.r.i.s.e. (Artistic Resources in Social Empowerment), an artist-in-residence, after-school FREE program for youth ages 5 to 14, offered at Riverbend Art Center and the Dayton Cultural & RTA Center. Participants will see live performances by professional actors, learn drama and dance and perform in on-stage plays. They also learn airbrushing, beadart, computer art, drawing, jewelry making, lapidary, painting, pottery, sculpture and video production and exhibit what they create. The fall session of a.r.i.s.e. will begin Septermber 25 and last nine weeks. For more information call 333-7000.

NATURE

Brukner Nature Center:
Homeschool Nature Club. Meets second Tuesday monthly 2:00-4:00. Registration and payment of $2 for members and $4 for non-members are due by Monday before class. R egister your child now for this wonderful program by calling (937) 698-6493.

Aullwood Audubon Center:
Aullwood is an environmental education center. We are an Audubon Center of the National Audubon Society. Our goal is to promote the protection of birds, other wildlife and the habitats on which they depend. Aullwood offers both children and adults the opportunity to experience and appreciate the world through experience-based education.

FIVE RIVERS METRO PARK:
The greater Dayton Metro parks offer homeschool classes and a variety of educational opportunities. Classes are offered year around and can be viewed online. Almost all of the classes offered are free. You can view the website to find classes or pick up a Parkways flyer at your local library.

FITNESS

Huber Heights YMCA
Homeschool Gym: YMCA staff will provide structured activities for the first hour. Then participants will have one hour of free time to spend in the Y. Participants under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult from 2:00-3:00 pm.

Robinson Branch YMCA – Troy
HOMESCHOOL PHYSICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM

Kleptz YMCA – Englewood
Join other families who home school their children for this interesting and fun program on Tuesdays from 1-2:30 p.m. These classes are designed for students K-12. Activities include a learn to swim program, team sports, and cardio-strength training. A semester includes 14 classes, a Kleptz YMCA Home School T-shirt and certificate of participation. Cost per semester is:

MUSEUMS

BOONSHOFT MUSEUM OF DISCOVERY:
Groups of homeschooled children can experience interactive learning first-hand in our educational programming guided by the Ohio proficiency standards. Each class will receive age appropriate in-depth lessons. All classes are listed on the website. Cost and age requirements vary by class.

Dayton Art Institute:
The mission of The Dayton Art Institute is to provide a diverse audience with knowledge, pleasure, cultural awareness and sensitivity to the visual environment by collecting, exhibiting and preserving the fine arts; promoting and cultivating aesthetic values in the visual arts; and providing exposure to the arts through a variety of structured and unstructured learning experiences.
